Ingredients

  • 2 cups of whole milk

  • 3 large egg yolks

  • 2/3 cup granulated sugar

  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour

  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

  • 2-3 ripe bananas, sliced

  • 1 box of vanilla wafers or ladyfingers

  • Whipped cream (optional, for topping)

Directions

  • Prepare the pudding base:
    In a medium saucepan, heat the milk over medium heat until it’s steaming but not boiling.
    In a separate bowl, whisk together the egg yolks, sugar, flour, and salt until smooth.
  • Combine and cook:
    Gradually whisk the hot milk into the egg mixture, making sure to temper the eggs and avoid curdling.
    Return the mixture to the saucepan and cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture thickens to a pudding consistency (about 5-7 minutes).
  • Add flavor and cool:
    Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
    Allow the pudding to cool slightly before assembling the dessert.
  • Assemble the layers:
    In a large serving dish or individual cups, layer the vanilla wafers or ladyfingers on the bottom.
    Add a layer of banana slices on top of the wafers.
    Pour a layer of pudding over the bananas, spreading it evenly.
    Repeat the layers until all the ingredients are used, ending with a final layer of pudding.
  • Chill and serve:
    Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 2 hours or until set.
    Before serving, top with whipped cream if desired.
